Amangalla occupies a 17th-century building inside the ramparts of Galle Fort, the former New Oriental Hotel, whose long-running hotel history began in the 19th century. Its rooms, chambers and suites look toward the fort and harbour or the hotel gardens. Period details include polished teak floors and antique furnishings; beyond the hotel, the narrow streets of the fort are part of the experience. This is a heritage stay in the middle of Galle’s historic quarter, rather than a standalone beach resort.
