Rex is a curated index of the world’s best luxury hotels, with the awards and recognition each has earned gathered in one place. It exists to replace an afternoon lost to review sites with a shortlist you can trust. Here is exactly how it is put together — and where its limits are.
Rex is put together and maintained by its founder. It is not a large editorial team or a crowd of anonymous reviewers — it is a single, consistent point of view, which is the whole point. A short list is only useful if someone is accountable for what is on it.
Rex indexes luxury hotels that are best-in-class for what they are — city landmarks, coastal retreats, design-led boutiques, grand historic houses — regardless of which group or brand operates them.
Inclusion is based on a property’s track record of top-tier recognition, not on marketing. The awards and recognition each hotel has earned are gathered onto its page so you can see the credentials in one place instead of hunting across a dozen sites.
The evidence comes from established sources of luxury-travel recognition — among them the MICHELIN Guide, Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Leading Hotels of the World, Robb Report and Afar — alongside each hotel’s own published information.
Where real traveller discussion exists, hotel pages add guest voices: sourced excerpts from Reddit, each linked to the original post, so the picture reflects what actual travellers say, not just what the awards say. Pages say plainly when that discussion is thin.
To be clear about what Rex is and isn’t: it is curation and desk research, not a diary of personal stays. Rex does not claim to have visited every hotel on the list, and nothing here is written as a firsthand review.
A place is included because its record and recognition are verifiable — not because someone spent a night there. Where genuine firsthand or guest perspective exists, it is labelled as such.
The index is reviewed over time. Standing changes — a hotel is renovated, loses a star, or slips — and when a property no longer belongs, it comes off. Rex is meant to stay short and current, not to accumulate everything.
Rex is fully independent. No hotel pays to be listed, nothing is sponsored, and there are no affiliate commissions on bookings. Selection is never influenced by a commercial relationship, because there aren’t any.
When you book, you book directly with the hotel or a booking site of your choosing. Rex takes no cut — that independence is the point.
