Gorilla Forest Lodge, an A&K Sanctuary

Inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the Buhoma area, Gorilla Forest Lodge is a small forest property of 10 standalone suites set apart among the trees. Its defining draw is access to gorilla trekking in Bwindi, with guided forest walks, birding and community visits offering other ways to explore the surroundings. The 2025 renovation recast the lodge around the rainforest canopy; from the property, guests may also spot monkeys and birds, and gorillas have occasionally been seen at the lodge.

Set in Uganda’s Virunga foothills, a few hundred metres from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park’s entrance, Mount Gahinga Lodge is a small base for gorilla and golden-monkey tracking, volcano hikes and Batwa cultural visits. It opened in 2002 and is operated by Volcanoes Safaris. Eight hand-built bandas—six standard and two deluxe—face the volcanoes; each has a private porch and fireplace. Lodge activities also include visits to the Gahinga Batwa Village and its cultural heritage trail.
