The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas

The takeaway

Choose this Uptown address for a polished city stay where Dean Fearing’s Southwestern restaurant is as central to the draw as the hotel itself.

About the hotel

In Uptown Dallas, this 21-story hotel places 218 guest rooms and suites within an urban property with private residences above. Its simplified Regency-style tower, clad in buff-colored brick and limestone, gives way to interiors refreshed with walnut and bone-toned finishes. Fearing’s, the hotel’s Southwestern restaurant, is a defining part of the stay; a Club Lounge and spa add quieter counterpoints to the McKinney Avenue setting. The appeal is a city hotel with a strong Texas dining identity, rather than a resort removed from the city.

What real people are saying.

Reddit excerpts · separate from Rex’s editorial judgment

Guests describe The Ritz-Carlton, Dallas as a stronger choice if you plan to stay downtown, with one guest finding its rooms better quality and cleaner than the Las Colinas alternative. Another guest found the hotel fairly ordinary but liked the bar, while noting that it is often crowded.

Discussion is limited; these accounts offer a glimpse rather than a broad verdict.

“I have stayed at the one downtown twice. It's fairly mid, honestly. I do like the bar, but it's usually very crowded.”

“RC Dallas Downtown has the edge if you aren’t leaving Downtown and they also have the better quality rooms, find it little more cleaner.”

In downtown Houston’s business and theater districts, Hotel ICON occupies a neoclassical landmark built for the Union National Bank. The 135 accommodations include 18 suites, while preserved architectural details—notably the original bank vault in the lobby—keep the building’s former life in view. Contemporary guest rooms and an on-site restaurant and bar make this a city-center base with a stronger sense of architectural history than a standard downtown tower.

The St. Regis Atlanta is a 182-room-and-suite hotel in Buckhead, a north Atlanta district where residential streets meet concentrated shopping and dining. Its scale is substantial but not that of a convention-sized downtown tower: 151 guest rooms and 31 suites sit alongside a spa, an outdoor pool piazza and several on-site restaurants and bars. Standouts include Atlas, whose dining room displays 20th-century modern art, and Astor Court’s afternoon tea. The immediate setting is more Buckhead neighborhood than central Atlanta.
