Virunga Lodge
Colline Gakoro, Rwanda
Built in 2004 on a ridge in Rwanda’s Burera District, Virunga Lodge looks toward the Virunga Volcanoes, the Musanze Valley and Lakes Bulera and Ruhondo. Its intimate layout is described on the lodge’s site as twelve bandas, including guide rooms; the guest accommodation faces either the volcanoes or the lakes. Handmade design and a Dian Fossey Map Room exhibition give the lodge a strong sense of place, while gorilla and golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park are among the experiences guests can arrange.
